Red Bull New Favorites in F1’s Constructor’s Championship Race

Published on: 26/06/2021

This week, for the first time in seven years, a team other than Mercedes are the bookmakers favorites to land Formula 1’s Constructor’s Championship. Just a month ago Unibet’s Formula 1 betting odds saw the German team trading as 1/7 favourites to retain the title for an eighth consecutive year.

However, in an amazing turn of events which has seen the Red Bull team win the last three races of the current season, the latest Formula 1 betting updates see the Milton Keynes based team positioned as 8/13 market leaders.

A 1-3 finish for Red Bull in last weekend’s French Grand Prix means the 2010-2013 constructor’s championship winners are now 37 points ahead of their old rivals going into this weekend’s race in Austria. It is a circuit owned by Red Bull and traditionally it has favoured their cars.

Red Bull’s F1 Odds May Not Last

That is not a fact missed on Denis Yousuf, Formula 1 odds compiler for Draft Kings. Speaking to Online-Casinos.com he told us: “There are back-to-back races coming up in Austria where we can only see the Red Bull team extend their Championship. The 8/13 will probably look very generous after them.”

Yousuf added: “From a neutrals viewpoint it has been a fantastic start to the Formula 1 season. Let’s not forget Max Verstappen is also the favourite to become World Champion for the very first time in his career. We make him 4/5 in that category, a price you may never see again beyond Sunday.”

Netflix is the Drive for American Fans

Formula 1’s official website, F1.com, currently lists 22 races in the 2021 calendar following the cancellation of the Singapore GP. It was scheduled for October 3. However, Liberty Media, the sport’s commercial rights holders, have indicated they are keen to find a replacement for that grand prix.

In fact, with Covid-19 casting doubts over the Japanese, Australian, Mexican and Brazilian grand prix’ it has become more likely than probable a second race in Austin, Texas, will be added to the 2021 roster. Their Circuit of the Americas already has a slot on October 24.

That’s considered great news by Zak Brown CEO of the McLaren Formula 1 team who is keen to cultivate what he sees as an untapped US market. Quoted in Autosport Magazine the American team boss said. “Netflix’ ‘Drive to Survive’ series has been the single most important impact [on Formula 1] in North America. It’s done such a great job, not only just raising awareness, but turning people into avid fans.”

“I would be very supportive if we have the opportunity to choose [an additional race] and the stars aligned to have two races in America.” Brown added: “I think given the rapid growth, the numbers in America now for the growth of Formula 1 are awesome.”

It Could Turn in Texas

The Mercedes team may be equally keen to have a second race in Texas. Formula 1 betting experts and the formbook alike will confirm this is a venue much to the liking of Lewis Hamilton’s team.

And so it seems, like the Austin circuit itself, there may yet be a few twists and turns in the Constructor’s Championship race before the prize is finally awarded. Look out for the odds to keep twisting and turning at all of the best online betting sites.
